Fake disability applicants galore in Baleswar

The Baleswar district administration has asked the concerned authorities to lodge FIRs against fake applicants who applied for disability pension with forged medical certificates.

Accordingly, the Executive Officer of the Jaleswar Notified Area Council (NAC) has filed FIRs against as many as 63 applicants whose medical certificates were found forged.

The police after registering the cases have begun investigation.

Inspector-in-Charge of Jaleswar police station Dillip Sahu said, “On the basis of the compliant of the Executive Officer, the cases have been registered under Sections 468, 471, 420 and 34 of IPC against the 63 persons. The cases are being investigated.”

Under Jaleswar NAC in the recent months 64 applications were received, but except one the rest were found to be not genuine during verification in the District Headquarters Hospital.

“The applications were sent to the Sub-Collector’s office. The Sub=Collector’s office during scrutiny of the medical certificates found 63 of them to be fake ones. The Sub-Collector asked for initiation of action against the fake applicants,” said Jaleswar NAC Executive Officer Amiya Ranjan Das. Not only in Jaleswar, such cases in large numbers have also been detected by the authorities of other NACs and blocks of the district.

These fake applicants have become a serious headache for the administration. In the recent months, the administration has found as many as about 400 applications with fake medical certificates in different blocks and NACs in different phases.

Sub-Collector Indramani Nayak said, “The number of fake applicants detected in recent months could be around 400. I have directed the concerned heads of the blocks and NACs to lodge FIRs against the fake applicants. There is a clear instruction from the Government to take action against them.”

“The medical authorities are the appropriate authorities to verify the authenticity of the medical certificates. Once they say negative, action is initiated. Besides we are trying to unearth the rackets,” he added.
