Members of the trade unions staged a demonstration in front of the Office of the labour Commission here on Monday demanding proper facilities for construction workers.
They demanded that the Government make the process of registration of construction labourers easy without creating confusion in their minds.
The trade unionists also alleged that the labourers are yet to get any facility from the State or Central Government due to so many formalities and confusion created by the Government during the process of registration.
All India Trade Union Centre (AITUC) Bhubaneswar district secretary Sura Jena said the Government should delegate power to the District labour Officers instead of the district Collectors to look into the problems of the labourers deeply.
Odisha Construction Workers’ Welfare Fund Chairman Subash Singh received the memorandum from the trade unionists and assured that he would look into the genuine demands of the construction labourers.
Among others, trade union leaders Bijay Jena and Narendra Parida took the lead of the demonstration.
