The East Zone Chess (men/women) Inter-University tournament was inaugurated by KIIT University registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta at the KIIT University on Wednesday in presence of KIIT sports director Dr Gaganendu Dash and tournament chief arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahoo.
A total of 25 universities in men and 16 universities in women are participating in the tournament. 300 players and managers, coaches of different universities across the country have assembled for the event.
The tournament will be conducted from November 1 to 4 with seven rounds.
In men category the KIIT University, University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University, Utkal University, Banaras Hindu University, Manipur University, Patna University won with 4-0 whereas Pt Ravi Sankar Sukla University, University of Burdwan won with 3-1 in the first round.
While in women category the KIIT University, University of Calcutta, Patna University, BRA Bihar University, Pt Ravi Sankar Sukla University won with 4-0 and Sarguja University and Banaras Hindu University won with 3-1.
