The Sambalpur University that witnessed an unpleasant situation due to conflict between teachers and students on September 24 functioned smoothly.
However, the syndicate that met on Thursday decided that an external high power committee would inquire into the matter and recommend for action against people, informed VC Prof Deepak Behera.
“A committee with members from totally outside was immediately constituted with retired judge PR Dube, one senior staff each from VSSIMSAR and VSSUT, Burla and one as Collector’s nominee. They will give their report within a stipulated time limit,” informed the VC.
“Since the present syndicate members are from teaching faculties only, their report may not be termed as impartial. Hence, we decided to form a committee with totally outsiders as members and conduct the inquiry,” the VC added.
The committee will inquire into two incidents. One- locking up the PG council gate on September 3 where 12 teaching staff, including five women, were confined for hours. The second one is on an altercation between Prof Rajat Kujur and a student on September 24.
“Once, we get the report, the punishment to be imposed on students or teachers will be decided,” Prof Behera said further.
“If the students will maintain high sense of discipline, then university authorities will ensure election in the campus at any cost,” the VC said.
Due to the current situation in the campus, the Burla police detained two students of the university belonging to BJD and ABVP and later released them.
