Expulsion order is 'nonsense', says Soumya

A day after getting the expulsion order from the AICC, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said the order was “nonsense” and it should be “torn up and thrown away” just as AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi had given a statement on the controversial Ordinance to negate the Supreme Court’s verdict on convicted lawmakers.

Patnaik claimed, “I’m a true Congress worker. I don’t know on what basis the party expelled me.” Patnaik’s supporters took out a procession and held a rally in front of the Congress Bhavan here.

Meanwhile, several youths on Tuesday night attacked the house of PCC disciplinary committee president Harihar Karan. The youths who came by bikes to Karan’s residence at IRC Village in the city shouted slogans against him.

Karan’s car which was parked outside the house was damaged as the youths pelted stones at it.

PCC president Jayadev Jena and several other senior party leaders rushed to Karan’s house and stayed there till late in the night.

The attack on Karan’s house came hours after the AICC announced Patnaik’s expulsion from the party. Karan hinted that the attackers are Patnaik’s followers.
