The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to introduce an Express Cleaning Service (ECS) to ensure proper disposal of wastes from January.
Under the ECS, the BMC will engage private agencies to collect the wastes from private houses, educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, apartments, commercial units, auditoriums and markets. The waste is supposed to be dumped at a designated place near the Sainik School.
All the 52 wards of the BMC are now divided into four units and three private agencies are assigned to carry out the cleaning task. The agencies have signed an agreement with the civic body for seven years.
A container having 1,100-liter capacity will be installed in every ward.
“Normally, the waste will be collected in morning. An exact time will be given to people who will hand over the garbage to the agencies at their door steps,” said BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, adding that wastes would be collected on holidays too.
Before dumping the garbage at the dump yard near the Sainik School, it will be weighed and basing on the weight, monthly payment will be made to the agencies accordingly.
