Huge caches of explosive substances were seized on Tuesday from a bus at Chandikhol under the Badachana police station in Jajpur district. The police also arrested a person on the charge of illegally carrying the explosives from Kolkata. He was identified as Achyuta Sundar Sahoo (25) of Tigiria village.

IIC of Badachana police station Ranjit Kumar Sahoo said, "Altogether, six quintals of sulfur powder and 2.40 quintals of magnesium powder and other explosives were seized during a surprise raid on the bus. We have also detained the bus and are interrogating its crews.”

According to the police, the arrested man has provided some vital clues about the illegal transport of explosives. The explosives packed in plastic covers were found hidden in the bus. "The explosives were intended to be used either to make crackers or bombs. Prima facie, it seems the explosives were procured for making crackers. However, we are investigating the source of the explosives. The arrested man has no licence to deal in explosives,” said the IIC.
