A huge explosion blew off the roof of the top floor of a three-storied building at Achyutpur village under the Industrial Area police station here late on Wednesday night.
While the building owner Kalicharan Mohapatra and his family stay in the ground floor of the building and another family from Bihar staying in the second floor were reportedly safe.
A mason, Sridhar Mohanty, who was staying on rent on the top floor of the building, was untraceable till last reports came in.
Industrial Area police station IIC Jayant Kumar Behera visited the house and inquired into the incident. Although the exact reason behind the blast was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that firecrackers or an LPG cylinder triggered the blast.
“We learnt about the incident today morning. We are inquiring into it. Either the blast was triggered by a firecracker explosion or cooking gas cylinder blast,” said IIC Behera.
