The statutory committee of experts overseeing the repairs and conservation of Shree Jagannath Temple on Tuesday inspected the temple and the Simhadwar after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team filed a status report on the condition of the temple and surrounding temples of the complex.

Spokesperson of the expert team GC Mitra said the Simhadwar is in a very poor state as the adjoining constructions put extraneous pressure on the gate. Besides, its two main pillars were in bad shape, he informed, and made it clear that repairing the gate would be a difficult task.

For renovating the gate, two new pillars would be erected, besides steel truce would be fixed to strengthen it, he added.  ASI superintendent Ashok Kumar Patel said all the weak stones would be replaced. The expert team included Dr NC Pal and Dharmuprasad Mishra.
