Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday requested the State Government to speed up the rehabilitation process and distribution of relief materials to the Fani-affected people.

Addressing a Press conference here, Azad said the initiatives taken by the State Government in the aftermath of the devastation have not been satisfactory.

Informing that he visited Puri, Azad said he saw a group of people blocked a road expressing unhappiness over tardy distribution of relief materials.

He assured them than he would request the State Government to expedite distribution of 50 kg of rice and `2,000 to the affected people and restoration of electricity and water supply.

Azad also assured that he would request the Union Government to restore the Internet and telephone and mobile services to normal in Odisha.

He, however, thanked the State Government for evacuating a vast number of people, for which the causality could be minimised compared to that in the Super Cyclone of 1999.
