The BJP on Tuesday urged the CBI to speed up its ongoing investigation into the chit fund scam in Odisha in which many ruling party leaders, including MPs and MlAs, and Government officials are allegedly involved. The party submitted a memorandum to CBI Director Anil Kumar Sinha through CBI SP, Bhubaneswar in this regard after staging a demonstration at the CBI officer here.
Mentioning that many chit fund promoters and politicians, including sitting MPs and MlAs, have already been arrested, the memorandum said the case assumes added importance in view of the interrogation of aides of the Chief Minister, which points towards his alleged personal involvement and complicity in the case.
The memorandum said there was rising discontent among the public over what was perceived as the CBI going slow in the investigation. “The ‘inherent weakness’ in the CBI charge-sheet has also led to the accused getting bail,” the memorandum alleged. said documents recovered from Subhankar Nayak, a city-based land broker, revealed the nexus between chit fund operators, politicians, bureaucrats and middlemen in the scam.
“In the interest of transparency and accountability to general public, we demand that the CBI publish the details of the diary without further delay and expedite the investigation process as per its revelations which will hopefully bring justice to the innocent depositors,” the memorandum said.
