Expectant mothers want delivery on Jan 22

Several expectant mothers and their family members here in Kendrapada district have requested the doctors to schedule their baby births on January 22, considering it an auspicious day as the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be held on the day.

According to Dr Rashmi Kanta Patra, MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Kendrapada–based Sai Hospital, many expectant mothers and their family members were insisting that their children be born on January 22, which is a significant and auspicious day in the country. “I receive requests from around 9 to 10 families daily for deliveries specifically on January 22. While it's impossible to guarantee normal deliveries, we have explained to those requiring surgery that the dates can be adjusted within a reasonable timeframe," stated Dr Patra.

“It is concerning that sometimes the family members even expect us to overlook complications that may arise for the mother and the child by doing so, stated Dr Patra

According to Md. Wakil, manager of Sai Hospital, the hospital has arranged for approximately one and a half dozens of operations on January 22 to accommodate the demands. The hospital performs around 8-9 delivery-related operations per day.

Nearly 16 pregnant women have requested that their deliveries be carried out on January 22 to coincide with the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The pregnancy terms of these women end around January 22," said Sahid Hossain, one of the partners of Popular Clinic at Manakarpur.

“Look, Lord Ram is the symbol of heroism, integrity and obedience; therefore, babies born on the day of the ‘pran pratishtha’ of the temple will also have the same qualities," stated Debasmita Biswal, an expectant mother.
