Vigilance officers on Thursday intercepted Mayurbhanj district’s Karanjia Rural Works Division Executive Engineer Jasobant Sarangi carrying hard cash of Rs7,74,020 in bundles.
The officers, basing on a reliable information, intercepted Sarangi’s Bolero vehicle, No OR-02-BP-7585, near Dhanibani Chhak under Patna police station in the district. The vehicle in which Sarangi was sitting was proceeding towards Bhubaneswar. The cash bundles were in a suitcase.
On questioning, Sarangi could not account for the possession of cash of such high amount. The officers seized the case in presence of witnesses.
“It is suspected to have been illegally collected from different executants in various public works,” an official release said.
Simultaneous search were being carried out at his premises at different places, the release added.
