A team of excise officials was attacked by country liquor manufacturers during a raid at Chhendipada in Angul district on Saturday. The officials’ vehicle was also ransacked and its driver was injured in the incident.
Reports said that the excise team raided a country-made liquor brewery after receiving information about illegal manufacturing of liquor at Bagadia vilage. During the raid, the excise sleuths seized huge amounts of liquor, mahua, utensils and other brewing substances from the spot. They also detained three persons for illegal operation of the liquor unit.
Sources said the persons operating the brewery attacked the officials demanding release of the detained persona. They pelted stones at the officials and their vehicle and fled from the spot taking away the detainees with them. Till filing of the report, no case had been lodged against the assailants.
