The Vigilance police on Saturday arrested

and forwarded to court Rayagada in-charge Excise Superintendent Nina

Beura a day after she had been caught with unaccounted cash of Rs 6.29

lakh in a car near Totapada Chhack on National Highway-16 in Khordha

district.

Beura was intercepted by a team of Vigilance officials at around 11.30

on Friday night when she was on her way to Bhubaneswar from

Rayagada in a private vehicle.

During a search, Rs 6 lakh was recovered from her possession, which

she could not account for satisfactorily.

Earlier, the anti-graft agency had reliable information regarding

collection of huge cash by Beura as illegal gratification from IMFL and

country liquor vendors, following which a close watch was kept over her

movements and activities.

Beura's husband Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, who is posted as IIC of the

Mahanga police station, was directed to appear at the Vigilance office

after being found missing from his residence at Mahanga during a raid

by Vigilance officials.

Subsequently, searches were carried out at different residential areas

linked to Beura and her relatives.

Meanwhile, the Mahanga IIC appeared in the Vigilance office in

Bhubaneswar and was grilled for hours.
