A six-member team of the Directorate General Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) raided a Bhubaneswar-based real estate firm on Monday for allegedly evading service tax worth over Rs 1 crore. The managing director of the firm is absconding, but the DGCEI has asked him to appear before it on January 27.

Sources said the DGCEI team from Rourkela led by Deputy Director Satish Kumar went to Bhubaneswar on Monday and conducted a raid in the office of the Purushotam Infratech Private limited at Plot No N-1243, IRC Village, Nayapalli and verified various documents. The team found the firm to be evading service tax worth over Rs 1 crore between July 1, 2010 and January, 2014. The team continued the raid throughout the night. However, it could not nab managing director of the firm Udaykar Sahu.

“We raided the office of Udaykar Sahu and on verifying the papers of the firm we found service tax worth over Rs 1 crore was outstanding against it. We have summoned Sahu, now on the run, to appear before us on January 27,” said DGCEI Superintendent D Samatray.
