An Excise Sub-Inspector of the district was arrested by the Town police on Wednesday for issuing a false verification report in the name of a dead woman to renew the licence of a bar and restaurant at Gopa Chowk in the district.
The accused Sub-Inspector was identified as Purnendu Rout.
On July 16, 2018, the then Excise Superintendent Rahas Vihari Patra had lodged a complaint against Rout that he had given a false verification report to renew the licence of a bar to a woman, who died three years ago. Acting on the complaint, police had initiated an investigation regarding this and arrested Rout from his residence at Gop.
The arrested Excise SI was produced before the SDJM Court and remanded to jail custody after his bail plea was rejected.
