Exam centre at U'kote women's college sought

Students of the Biju Patnaik ST Women’s College held a rally and staged a demonstration at the Tehsil office here demanding an examination center in their college.

later, the students handed over a memorandum, addressed to the Higher Education Department Secretary and the district Collector, to the Tehsildar.

The lone women’s college was established in the year 2009 by efforts of former MlA Jagabandhu Majhi. While girls of many far and near villages have been studying in this college, the administration has closed its eyes for its development and even yet to give permission to the college to conduct examinations, alleged protesting students.

Presently, the college has 256 students. But as it has not been made an examination center, the students move to others centers facing various troubles. Though the Higher Education Department and the district administration have been appraised several times, yet they have not listened.

The students threatened to intensify stir if their demand is not met soon.

Additional Tehsildar Ranjan Manseth said he would send the copy of the memorandum to the authorities concerned for necessary action soon.
