An old man lost his son less than two years ago. At that time there was no graveyard in the village to perform the last rites. He had to cremate his son's body in an abandoned place at the top of the village. From that day he decided to build a cemetery in the village.
Now it has become a reality. Everyone is now appreciating the work of retired army officer Rabinarayan Ojha, a resident of Ward No. 1 of Sadakpur Panchayat under Korei Block in Jajpur district.
Anil, the middle son of Rabinarayan's three sons, was serving in the army. He came home on leave in February 2021. He fell down and cracked his head. He was first treated at Korei hospital and then at Cuttack. As his condition did not improve, he was taken to the Command Hospital in Kolkata. He died there on April 11, 2021. After bringing the body to the village, he was cremated in an abandoned place.
Rabinarayan could not accept this easily. He spent nearly Rs 5 lakh from his pension money to complete more than half the work of the cemetery. Seeing this, local Sarpanch Rabindra Behera extended his hand of cooperation. He provided a grant of about Rs 1 lakh and the cemetery has now been completed. A road has also been built there. Rabinarayan says that no one in the village will now bother to cremate the body of a near and dear. He says if a tube well is dug near the cemetery, it would be useful. Social activist Taraprasad Mishra and youth activist Pradeep Kumar Mohanty praised Rabinarayan for his noble work
