Former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Sambalpur University Prof Dhrubaraj Nayak was attacked and killed during a robbery bid at his residence in Sargiguda in Jharsuguda district on Sunday.
As per reports, the miscreant attacked Prof Nayak with an axe after barging into the latter’s residence at Sargigud at around 12 pm. The accused then asked for Rs 100 but Nayak refused to pay him. The miscreant then attacked Nayak with an axe and fled spot. Prof Nayak, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a private hospital in district, where he was declared brought dead by doctors. Nayak’s brother Arjun said assailant was a youth of their village. Later, the accused youth was detained by police and his interrogation was on.
