With an aim to enrol 30 lakh members, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Monday began its membership drive in 33 organisational districts across the State, besides at the State party office here.
At the State party office, former Puri MlA Uma Ballav Rath and many other supporters from all over the State joined the party in the presence of outgoing PCC president Niranjan Patnaik and other senior party leaders.
Rath, who was a Congress MlA, had left the party and joined the BJP in 2009 when he was denied the Congress ticket to contest from Puri. “We started the membership drive on the auspicious occasion of the Akshaya Tritiya. Efforts would be made to bring back those party leaders and workers who left the Congress in past,” said Patnaik.
