Ex-MlA Shivaji Majhi back in Cong

After two and a half years of revocation of his suspension from the Congress, former lanjigarh MlA Shivaji Majhi joined the party on Sunday. Besides, former MP Nakul Nayak also joined the Congress.

The Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) had suspended Majhi from the party on chargs of horse-trading during the Rajya Sabha polls in 2010 as Majhi had abstained from voting during the polls despite party whip to vote in favour of Independent candidate Tara Ranjan Patnaik. After about a year, he was suspended from the party in June 2011.

However, his suspension was revoked in January 2014.

“We realised that Shivaji Majhi was not at fault; so, we inducted him back to our party,” Kalahandi District Congress president Gobardhan Das said.

Similarly, former lok Sabha member Nakul Nayak also joined the Congress on the day. Nayak had quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in 2009 after he was denied a Congress ticket to contest polls.

Following his expulsion from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2004, Nayak had joined the Samajwadi Party and unsuccessfully contested polls from the Kandhamal lok Sabha segment.
