Rich tributes were paid here to the memory of former MLA and former Baripada Urban Cooperative Bank president late Bimal Lochan Das. Speakers remembered him and his multifaceted personality besides his various activities during his lifetime at a condolence meeting held here on Wednesday.
Many leading intellectuals, cutting across party affiliations, took part in the programme. They described late Bimalbabu as a journalist, politician, social activist, businessman and cooperative movement champion- all rolled into one. The meeting organised by the "Pratishruti Pratisthan" was presided over by Dr Partha Sarathi Jena and coordinated by Pandit Bagvat Panda, while Rajkishore Acharya and Sarat Chandra Nayak were special guests.
Others who spoke and offered glowing tributes to the late leader on the occasion include Sanjay Chowdhry, Kavi Vishnu Satpathy, Murari Sharma, Shyam Sundar Das, Ashis Basa, Chhotelal Mohanta, Deepak Nayak, Vaidyanath Rath, Sukant Jew, Narottam Panigrahi and Pradeep Mohanty.
Bimalbabu, it may be recalled, breathed here at his residence at the age of 85, a few days ago due to age-related complications.
