Husband of Barshasoni Choudhury and former Minister Raghunath Mohanty's son Rajashree Mohanty was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks after rejection of his bail petition by the Court of SDJM here on Monday.
The petition while couldn't be moved in the first half by the defence advocates, the court rejected the petition after it was filed in the second half. Mohanty, while has been sent to jail, the defence advocates have moved to the Sessions Court where the petition would be heard on Thursday, informed advocate Gouri Chandra Rout. Mohanty, after being brought to Baleswar from Cuttack on Sunday, was lodged in the Marine police station last night. Amid tight security, he was produced in the jam packed court.
In the meantime, senior BJP leader Surama Padhi, besides demanding immediate arrest of the rest of the accused members in the dowry torture case, demanded adequate security for the victim and her family members. She, in a Press brief, alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is shielding Mohanty because both are involved in the high-profile mining scam. He handed over the case to the HRPC to appease Mohanty so that the ex-Minister did not open mouth against him, she charged.
She further demanded that Mohanty should be removed from the party State executive post and his mobile phones and other gadgets should be tracked. Padhi threatened that the BJP women wing would launch an agitation if all the accused in the case are not the arrested. Demanding speedy justice, she demanded a fast track trail of the case.
