Former Minister and two-time MlA of Basta Maheswar Bag passed away at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Thursday morning.
Bag had been admitted in the DHH on January 12 after he suddenly fell ill while going to attend a function. As his condition deteriorated, he was kept in the ICU where he passed away at 10.15 am, family sources said.
Bag was the MlA of Basta constituency from 1962 to 1967 as a candidate of Praja Socialist Party (PSP). He was reelected from the seat later in 1974 as a Janata Party candidate. He served the State as a Minister of Works, and Health and Family Welfare.
