A dead body of a former Maoist was recovered from the Uparakanti hill under the Semiliguda police limits in Koraput district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as T Anil Kumar alias Chandu hailing from Andhra Pradesh.
Though the reason behind the death was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the Maoist might have been murdered as there were marks of injuries on his head.
Chandu, who was carrying Rs 20 lakh reward on his head for his arrest, had been arrested in 2014 and later released on conditional bail. He was residing in Koraput for the last one year after getting bail.
During the period, Chandu was helping police, for which he had received threats from Maoists through letters.
