Former Deputy Speaker of Assembly and senior BJD leader Rama Chandra Panda has described the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on Puri Heritage Corridor project as historic.
The SC on Friday had dismissed the pleas against the Odisha Government’s ongoing construction and expansion activities around the 12th century Jagannath Temple at Puri. It may be recalled that, the SC in its historic ruling said that, the works to provide amenities like toilets and cloak rooms was in the public interest and accordingly termed the petitions as “frivolous” and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the appellants.
It may mention here that, hearing a PIL, the Orissa High Court had on May 9 had refused to restrain the State from going ahead with the work.
Reiterating the ruling of the SC as historic Panda further said since ongoing expansion/construction activities being carried by the State Government with the sole objective of providing basic and essential amenities, all political parties and other organisations, irrespective of their differences and political affiliations, should come together to support the State Government’s endeavour.
These facilities have become imminent for the convenience of the devotees/tourists at large and are absolutely in the larger interest of both public and the devotees, he said and also appreciated the steps initiated by the State Chief Minister.
