Ex-Dist Judges to assist police as advisors

The State Government is mulling to engage retired District Judges as District legal Advisors to assist police of their respective districts in handling all complicated cases registered in police stations. This was announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while attending the 82nd State Police Foundation Day here on Saturday.

Reiterating that the State police organisation needs to be more citizen-friendly, Patnaik, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that in the backdrop of the ongoing socioeconomic changes in the society, the police force should upgrade itself to meet fresh challenges.

“For this, my Government is constantly giving more emphasis on enhancing police capability through modernisation and infrastructure building. We are also regularly expanding the force by adding more and more wings to it,” Patnaik said, praising the performances of the newly-added police wings like SOG, STF and ODRAF.
