Former Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik has taken a plunge into politics as he joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) recently.
Marik himself informed about it to media here on Monday. The Odisha-cadre IPS officer had his superannuation in December last as CMD of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation.
“I have joined the JMM in the presence of Sibu Soren, Hemant Soren and other top leaders of the party in Ranchi. After joining the party, I am available as a candidate (in election). My party will decide on it,” Marik said.
Marik who hails from Godda in Jharkhand, is likely to contest polls from his ancestral place. Notably, a by-election in Godda has been necessitated after the death of BJP MlA Raghunandan Mandal in January.
It may be mentioned that Marik’s father was in politics and was elected to the Assembly in 1957 from the Godda constituency.
