Police have brought back former Brahmapur Mayor Siba Shankar Das to Odisha after his arrest in Delhi on Thursday for his involvement in many criminal offences.
Das, who was on run in the wake of police search for him, was brought to Bhubaneswar in a flight.
In his first reaction after landing at the airport here, he said, “It’s a politic gimmick of the ruling BJD to arrest me as the panchayat polls are round the corner.”
“As I left the BJD and contested in the Assembly elections as a BJP candidate, the Government arrested me,” Das alleged.
Meanwhile, refuting the allegations made by Das, Brahmapur BJD president Debaraj Mohanty said, “It is the duty of police to arrest the criminals. Our SP is busy arresting criminals irrespective of what political party they belong to.”
