Police on Sunday sent former Brahmapur Municipal Corporation Mayor Siba Shankar Dash alias Pintu, who has been arrested in connection with three cases, to the Brahmapur Circle Jail on the order of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Sarita Mohanty.

Siba Shankar, who is on a transit remand from New Delhi, had been produced before the SDJM at her official residence on Saturday evening. The former Mayor is facing three cases, an extortion case lodged at the Golanthara police station, a bomb explosion case lodged at the Gosani Nuagaon PS and a murder case lodged at the Bada Bazaar PS. The police too produced Siba Shankar’s aide Anil Nayak before the SDJM at the same time. SDPO Sanatan Das, Town PS IIC Nihar Pradhan, Bada Bazaar PS IIC Suresh Tripathy, Golanthara PS IIC Alok Jena and Gosani Nuagaon PS IIC Siba Shankar Mohapatra along with many ASIs, Habildars and Constables were present. Meanwhile, Siba Shankar’s lawyer Shishir Padhi has informed that a bail application would be submitted before the court on Monday for release of his client on bail. BJP Ganjam district president Kahnu Charan Pati and many other party leaders were present in the court premises while Siba Shankar was produced.

In his reaction, Siba Shankar said the CBI should conduct a probe into the cases lodged against him for which he has been arrested. “I have been implicated in false cases lodged at the behest of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” Siba Shankar told reporters.
