The Raghunathpur police have arrested retired Assistant Engineer Amiya Chandra Mallick working earlier in Raghunathpur block on the charge of embezzlement of block funds.
He was presented in the local Gramya Nyayalaya court and the designated judge sent him to jail.
A social activist, Govinda Ojha had lodged a case in the Gramya Nyayalaya that Rs 1.66 crore allotted as Ama Gaon, Ama Bikash funds in the block has been misappropriated by Mallick, the then BDO and a few Junior Engineers.
The court had instructed police to launch a probe, following which police registered a case against seven persons.
Based on record verification, police found severe irregularities committed by the accused men while executing the Ama Gaon, Ama Bikash scheme in several villages. While Mallick was arrested, the other accused persons would be picked up very soon, informed Raghunathpur police station IIC Rajkishor Behera.
