The State Election Commission on Thursday ordered re-polling in two booths in Ward-20 of the Vyasanagar Municipality on Friday after the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at both booths developed technical snags on Thursday.
In both the booths, instead of the Hand symbol of the Congress candidate Nirupama Sahoo, an EVM showed the BJD’s symbol of Conch.
Similarly, the symbol of Conch of BJD candidate Sabita Nayak was changed to the Hand symbol. Votes of all the 26 wards of the municipality would be counted on Saturday, said District Election Officer-cum-Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Jajpur Bharat Chandra Behera.
Tension mounted in Ward-20 after the voters came to know about the display of wrong symbols. Police and civil officials rushed to the booths and brought the situation under control, said Behera.
