With illegal encroachments creating many traffic woes, the Kopraut district administration will launch eviction drives at Jeypore, Koraput, Sunabeda and Kotpad from November first week.
“Encroachments on either side of the NH-26 have slowed down the traffic flow in these towns. With increase in population, accidents and traffic jam have become a regular exercise. Anything which obstruct the traffic and hamper pedestrian movement will be removed”, said district Collector Jaya Kumar V.
The Collector said a survey of Sunabeda and Kotpad has been completed and notices have been served on the encroachers. The Police and the administration are carrying out a joint survey in Koraput and Jeypore, he added.
The survey identified unauthorised constructions, obstructive parking and faulty designs, roadsides eateries ands stalls. The administration would also remove encroachments inside the towns, added Jaya Kumar.
To streamline traffic, police are identifying plots in the towns that can be converted into parking lots. The citizens of Jeypore towns and other parts of the district have welcomed the step as encroachment has disrupted the normal life.
