Eviction drive held in B'pur court premises

Published on:

The Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out an eviction drive near the District Judge Court and Sub-Collector office premises and demolished many cabins which were attached to the boundaries of the offices.

The drive was carried out for building of drains, said BMC officials. More than 20 lawyers’ chambers and shops were demolished.

Earlier, the BMC had given notice for the demolition. BMC Deputy Commissioner Sourendra Routray, Brahmapur Tehsildar Ranjit Parida and police officials were present during the drive.

lawyers’ Association secretary Pitabas Panda expressed deep resentment over the drive as many lawyers had been doing their business near the court. Earlier, the BMC and the lawyers’ association had a discussion over the issue, but the BMC’s act is very condemnable, he said.

A befitting reply would be given at an appropriate time, he threatened.
