After a few days’ lull, the district administration resumed the eviction drive in the 75-metre radius around the Jagannath Temple on Sunday.
The eviction drive resumed at the Municipality Market complex in the presence of district administration officials, magistrates and senior police officials.
Many of the shops coming within the 75-metre area were demolished and they would be relocated at a new market complex to be constructed at a different place along the Grand Road within two years.
As many as seven bulldozers were engaged in the demolition work. Two platoons of police force have been deployed for smooth conduct of the eviction drive, according to reports.
It may be noted that many mutts and Government and private structures have been razed as part of the State Government’s plan to make the Shreemandir the most secured zone under its world heritage city programme.
