A land near Station Square while has become disputed, the local traders demanded that those evicted by the district administration during widening of the station road should be rehabilitated on the land.
It may be recalled that inauguration of a school built on the land was stalled after locals protested the illegal handover of the land to the school with the administration promulgating prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPc.
local councilor Biswajit Das on Thursday in a Press brief said the establishment of the school would have ensured development of the ward.
On Friday, the local traders and merchants said when they were evicted, they were assured of appropriate rehabilitation and since the patch of land belongs to the OSRTC, the evicted traders, still struggling to find livelihood, should be accommodated there. “We have been running from pillar to post to restore our livelihood after we were dislodged by the administration during widening of the road. The court had directed the district administration for proper rehabilitation. Since livelihood restoration is a prime aspect, the administration should rehabilitate us there.
More so, the Government could earn more revenue from the traders’ shops than from a school,” said association secretary Gauranga Parida. The association submitted a memorandum to the district Collector in this regard.
