Save the Children on Wednesday launched its new global campaign entitled ‘Every last Child’ at an event held here.
The campaign aims to improve the lives of two million of India’s most excluded and vulnerable children, including 500,000 children currently living on the streets.
The launching was joined by State Commission for Protection of Child Right Chairperson Kasturi Mohapatra, CSR- Head, Tata Steel Ambika Prasad Nanda, State Commission for Women member Snehanjali Mohanty besides many civil society members, activists, researchers and children from various parts of Odisha.
Earlier in the day, 16 child champions had met Governor Dr SC Jamir and shared their experience of ensuring child rights in their community. The same child champions were felicitated in the evening.
Mahapatra said, “It is important for all of us to draw our attention to these children who are marginalised and vulnerable because of their special conditions like gender, disability, migration, poverty, socio- economic background. All of us need to make an effort to mainstream these children so that they are able to survive, get educated and protected. “
Save the Children called upon the State Government to increase the budgetary allocation for children in Odisha and provide basic healthcare, education and protection amenities to them.
