Strongly protesting alleged police inaction leading to murder of a woman, irate locals ransacked the Polsara police station in Ganjam district and set a police jeep on fire on Monday morning.
The locals attacked the police station and officials after some eve teasers, who had passed comments to a girl, allegedly killed her mother.
According to reports, one Manoj Nahak of Bhabarada and his associates had been passing objectionable comments to a girl of the village for last few months. The parents of the girl had lodged a complaint at the police for action.
But taking the advantage of police inaction, Nahak and his friends continued to pass lewd comments and even physically assaulted the girl.
On Sunday, the eve teasers attacked the girl’s father and mother when the duo was working in a crop field. Though the father of the girl managed to escape from the spot, the miscreants thrashed the girl’s mother with an iron rod, resulting in her death.
Following the incident, irate locals staged a road blockade by keeping the body on the road in front of the police station and demanded immediate arrest of the accused and action against the police. They gheraoed and ransacked the police station. This apart, they torched a police jeep.
The road blockade was withdrawn after DGP KB Singh suspended the Polasara police station Sub-Inspector.
