Protesting against the Supreme Court’s verdict on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lGBT) community, eunuchs from across the State under the banner of the Odisha Kinnara Mahasangha (OKM) held a silent protest rally at the lower PMG here
on Friday. More than one hundred OKM members led by its president Meera came in a procession from the Rajmahal Square to the lower PMG Square and opposed the Supreme Court’s judgment imposing on them Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which says homosexuality is an offence and illegal.
“The lGBT community in the State is really disappointed after the apex court criminalised homosexuality in its verdict,” Meera said, adding, “We will force the Government to come up with a law,” she added.” The community has right to live, express, speak and think and nobody has the right to rule against anybody’s fundamental right, Meera said, adding, “If a person’s lifestyle does not affect others’ life, the person should be given right to enjoy his or her own life.”
The lGBT community would continue their fight against the discrimination and would also file a review petition in the Supreme Court to rethink about their rights, she added.
