Six nomination papers, including that of a eunuch, were rejected during the scrutiny of the papers for the elections to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) scheduled to be held on January 8.

While the nomination of eunuch Madhuri, who had filed her nomination as an Independent for Ward-30 was turned down, those of Madhusudan Behera (Independent) of Ward-5, Sima Dalei (Congress) of Ward-9, lipsa Nayak(Utkal Bharat) of Ward-14, Pradyumna Pradhan (Independent) of Ward-21 and Ajay Kumar Subuddhi (Independent) of Ward-66 were also rejected.

The last date of withdrawal of nominations is December 26. The BJD is trying hard to persuade its rebel candidates, who have filed their nomination papers after being denied party tickets, to withdraw their papers.

Meanwhile, the political parties and candidates have intensified campaigning for the polls with many candidates moving door to door to woo the voters.
