'Essar has no business with labourers'

Published on:

Reacting to reports on ongoing agitation by labourers, the Essar Steel authorities on Friday said the company does not recruit any labourers but hires labourers through authorised labour contractors.

The company has also asked contractors to give priority to project affected people while deploying labourers.

“The Essar has already paid to the labour contractors up to October, 2015 for distribution of wages. The vandalism is an act of anti-social elements who try to vitiate the peace in area by chasing and assaulting company officials within factory premises,” said an Essar release.

It further claimed that the company has again asked all labour contractors to comply with the rules and regulations in terms of working hours and the payment of minimum wages.

It too said the current issue is between the contractors and the labourers and the Essar Steel is not involved in any of the issues raised.

“We strongly condemn the act of vandalism which poses a major threat to industries in the State,” the release said, adding that the company continues to work with State authorities and labour contractors to restore peace. The company too thanked State Authorities for their continued support to contain such vandalism.
