A much- awaited escalator now installed at the Rourkela railway station was inaugurated by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Friday evening amid presence of other dignitaries and senior railway officials.
The residents of Rourkela had been demanding for installation of escalator at Rourkela railway station . On March 13, 2015, Radhe Shyam, the then General Manager of South Eastern Railway, during his visit to Rourkela station, had announced that escalator proposal for Rourkela station has been approved. Accordingly tendering process for the same had started after his visit.
"Another escalator on the other side of the platform is also required, which also would be installed in next phase," Oram said. During the occasion, Oram also inaugurated 40 four-seated chairs at the Rourkela station and 20 four seated chairs at the Rajgangpur station.
