After six months of operation, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch has succeeded in arresting Tresty Securities ltd managing director Dayanidhi Mohapatra from Nashik in Maharashtra for allegedly duping depositors of Rs 10 crore in Odisha.
On Saturday, the investigating sleuths brought Mohapatra to Bhubaneswar on a transit remand after producing him in a court in Nashik.
Though EOW officials had been raiding different suspected locations in and outside the State to nab Mohapatra, he had managed to escape every time.
As per reports, Mohapatra had opened branches in Baleswar, Soro, Bhadrak and Betanati and collected money from investors under different schemes promising big returns and high interest.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations revealed that Mohapatra has invested the depositors’ money in a well-known transport agency and a group of hotels.
Acting on a tipoff that he was hiding somewhere in Nashik, Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma sought the help of his Nashik counterpart for his arrest.
Notably, the company had closed its offices in the State in 2013. In May this year, market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had lodged a complaint with the State Crime Branch about the Tresty Securities ltd and recommended action against the company officials. Similarly, some investors had also lodged complaint with the EOW seeking immediate justice to them.
