The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch (CB) on Thursday arrested a person for his alleged involvement in a serious land fraud case. The accused was forwarded to a court here.

The accused was identified as Chandradhwaja Sahoo of Nuabanta village on the outskirts of the city under the Saheed Nagar police limits.

According to CB DIG Rajesh Kumar, the case had come to light after local Tehsildar Chinmaya Kumar Acharya lodged a written complaint at the EOW office last year.

Kumar said the case pertains to fraudulent settlement of two acres of land in Patia Mouza vide plot no. 320 under Khata no 491 in favour of Chandradhwaja on the basis of forged documents in connivance with tehsil staff of Bhubaneswar.

In the year 1979, Chandradhwaja had applied for lease of land measuring two acres for agricultural purpose falsely claiming to be a landless agricultural labourer having income of Rs 2,000 per annum.

As per the Waste land lease Register for the year 1979, a Wl case was registered against the accused. The lease was granted in favour of the accused by forging the documents and the record keeper was directed to correct the RoR and issue patta to the accused, the DIG said.

“Investigation in the case is on,” he informed.
