'Ensure proper police patrolling for elders' safety'

Expressing serious concern over the murder of a retired doctor couple at Sailashree Vihar here, city-based Nuasahi Mahaveer Social Organisation on Wednesday demanded that proper police patrolling be made to ensure protection for the senior citizens.

At a Press meet, organisation secretary Milan Kumar Paikray said the mishap has triggered a sense of fear among senior citizens, especially who are staying alone. He alleged that the State Government does not supply enough manpower, PCR vans and bikes for police patrolling.

Organisation members also raised their voice against the Police Commissionerate and the Government. “Though we have an efficient Police Commissioner and the Chief Minister has Home Department with him, elderly people are not safe in the capital city,” Paikray observed.

The Press meet was held in association with the Nuapalii Kalinga Sports Council, the Kasturi Mahila Sangathan and the Balitota Sahi Youth Association.

Members of the outfits would submit a memorandum to the Police Commissioner, the DCP, the Home Secretary and the Nayapalli police station IIC in this regard on Thursday, said Paikray. They would also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister next week, he informed. Among others, Arjun Behera, Rahas Bihari Pani, Banaja Das, Bhawani Mohanty and many elderly persons were present.
