The Odisha High Court has directed the Registrar, Trade Union-cum-labour Commissioner to ensure a free and fair election for the posts of different office-bearers of the Utkal Journalists’ Association (UJA) scheduled to be held on Sunday.
Alleging that the UJA president, returning officer and a group of members have resorted to various undemocratic practices for unfair elections, some members of the association had on February 11 moved the High Court seeking its intervention.
Acting on the writ petition, Justice CR Dash disposed of the case on February 16 by directing the Registrar, Trade Union-cum-labour Commissioner to act in accordance with the law.
