Enough beds reserved for children: Govt

Even as rising number of children testing Covid-19 positive in State has set alarm bells ringing, the Health Department on Thursday said there is no need to trigger panic button as already efforts are on to deal with any kind of eventuality due to third wave of pandemic.

Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra said, “There have been cases of over 100 children getting infected daily in past few days. However, the population in age group of 0-18 years was equally infected during first and second waves. “Therefore, we need to take special protection to prevent the children and adolescents from being infected. This is in backdrop of prediction by international and national health experts that more children will be infected in 3rd wave if Covid numbers increase,” added Mohapatra. “Adequate number of general beds, oxygen support beds, ICU beds, HDU beds and ventilator support beds are ready at several District Headquarters Hospitals, Sub-Divisional hospitals and Community Health Centres,” he said.
