Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday told the State Assembly that a high-level committee would conduct an inquiry into the Bomikhal under-construction flyover collapse incident and submit a report within a week.

“A high-level inquiry by a committee comprising of the Chief Engineer, Designs and the Chief Engineer, Roads has been ordered to conduct an inquiry and submit their report within a week,” Patnaik said.

“My Government will ensure that stringent and exemplary action is taken against all persons responsible for this tragic incident,” he ensured the House.

He stated that a precious human life was lost and 11 persons were injured in the incident occurred at 12.45 pm on Sunday.

Being dissatisfied over the CM’s statement, Opposition Congress and BJP members demanded a discussion on the mishap by suspending the Question Hour.

As Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat didn’t respond to their demand, they rushed into the Well of the House and kept up shouting slogans like “We demand CM's resignation” and “PC culture not acceptable”. Unable to run the House, Amat adjourned the House till 11.36 am.

As the same situation continued, he too adjourned the House for three more times till 4.32 pm.

“I had given a motion on the Bomikhal flyover collapse for discussion. You allowed the Chief Minister to make a statement but didn’t give permission for a discussion as proposed by me. The democratic convention has been violated in the House,” alleged leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra.

Mishra then demanded convening of an all-party meeting for smooth running of the House.

Sources said the Business Advisory Committee has decided to hold a discussion on the flyover mishap in form of an Adjournment Motion on September 16.
