The Odisha Diploma Engineers’ Association, Jagatsinghpur unit, decried the arrest of Raghunathpur block former assistant engineer Amiya Chand Mallick on the charge of embezzlement of funds.

The association held its meeting in the Jagatsinghpur block office on Wednesday and said Mallick had been illegally arrested without any proper inquiry.

The association submitted a memorandum to the Jagatsinghpur Collector, SP, Zilla Parishad executive officer and block development officer seeking their intervention. Besides, it threatened to launch a stir if the demands were not met.

“We urge the police to conduct an appropriate probe and book the other accused persons in the case,” demanded association president Narendra Nath Jena. The meeting was attended by association advisor engineer Krushna Chandra Sethy, vice president Kailash Chandra Behera, secretary Surya Narayan Barik and assistant and junior engineers across the district.

Mallick, a retired assistant engineer of Raghunathpur block, was arrested on December 3 on the charge of embezzling a sum of Rs 1.66 crore allotted under Ama Gaon and Ama Bikash fund.
